A few years ago, I was standing backstage at an event, waiting to deliver a talk. My palms were sweating, my heart was racing, and every cell in my body screamed: Get out of here. I told myself, “You’re not ready. You don’t belong here. Someone else would do this better.” And then, in the middle of that mental storm, a simple realization hit me: Confidence isn’t what you feel before you act. It’s what you earn after you act. That day, I walked on stage terrified, and walked off with a little more confidence than I had an hour before. Not because I felt ready, but because I did it scared. The Confidence Trap Most People Fall IntoWe’ve been sold the idea that confidence comes from “believing in yourself.” Write affirmations. Pump yourself up. Repeat until you magically feel strong. But here’s the problem: belief doesn’t create confidence, evidence does. Confidence comes as a byproduct, not as a prerequisite. It’s the byproduct of taking action, especially when you don’t feel like it. No one walks into their first workout, sales call, or presentation brimming with confidence. You get it after you’ve done it, and your brain realizes: I didn’t die. I can do this again. Motion Beats FearWe wait for fear to disappear before we move forward. But the truth is, fear is strongest before the breakthrough. The fastest way through it? Motion. Act first. Let your emotions catch up. Confidence is not the absence of fear, it’s the decision to carry fear with you. The Power of Tiny TweaksToo often, we aim for giant leaps: “I’ll finally feel confident when I deliver a keynote, launch my business, or quit my job.” But the real formula is micro-acts of courage:
Each tiny action is a “rep.” And like muscles, confidence grows stronger through consistent reps. Track Your Wins (Because Your Brain Forgets)Here’s the sneaky thing about progress: we tend to remember our failures more vividly than our wins. That’s why tracking is so powerful. Each checkmark, each small win, becomes data your brain can’t argue with. It proves to you that you are capable, even on days when you don’t feel it. I keep a little ‘hype folder’ on my laptop, a collection of kind messages, testimonials, and notes from clients and readers. On the days when self-doubt creeps in (and it happens to everyone), I open it up and remind myself: these are real moments of impact I’ve created. It’s my proof file. Each note is a small win that helps me quiet the voice that says, ‘you’re not doing enough.’ My Challenge for You This WeekThink of something you’ve been putting off because you “don’t feel ready.” Now, break it into the smallest possible step. A step so small you can’t lose. Do that step this week. Track it. Then do the next one. Before long, you’ll look back and realize: Confidence wasn’t waiting for you to feel ready. It was waiting for you to begin. To your growth, 🎥 From Confidence to MasteryBuilding confidence is only the first step. The real question is: once you’ve taken that first courageous action, how do you channel it into something lasting? If you’re multipassionate, interested in many things but struggling to follow through, you’ll love my latest video. I share a framework for turning scattered energy into focused progress (and I've been there), so you don’t just start… you actually master the skills that matter most.

I recently came across this blog post by Jessyio, and the title made me reflect: "you have 12 shots in life." My first reaction was defensive. Twelve? That can't be right.
